Camp Unalayee is a wilderness summer camp situated on 400 private acres in the heart of Northern California’s Trinity Alps Wilderness. At 6,400’, Camp is nestled in a beautiful, alpine lake basin, surrounded by rugged peaks and saw-tooth ridges. Campers live in small groups along our year-round creek, or by meadows in the woods near the lake.
Land Acknowledgement
We would like to pause to acknowledge that the Camp Unalayee basin sits on the ancestral land of the Hupa, Karuk, Yurok, Wintu and the Shasta people. We recognize their ancestral past and present as there are still native people from this area living in and around the region today. We are humbled and give our appreciation for the opportunity to explore, learn, teach, work, and live here, as we do our best to take care of this land. We invite you to join us and take a moment in silence to show our respect.
Dozens of other jewel-like lakes and clear-flowing streams are within easy hiking distance of the Camp basin, providing destinations for day-hikes, swimming, fishing and backpacking.
While our location provides seclusion and intimacy with nature, Camp’s gated, private road provides easy access to the highway and needed services. The combination of isolation and access allows Camp to make no compromises in safety and security while providing an unparalleled wilderness summer camp experience.
Camp Unalayee operates under special use permit with the Shasta-Trinity and Klamath National Forests.
Camp Unalayee offers children a unique opportunity to live simply with nature. In this enriching environment, campers discover themselves, explore their limits and learn what truly matters.
