“Camp Unalayee has always had a special place in my heart since my Auntie Erica took me to camp when I was only four, and it quickly became something that I have looked forward to every summer. I live in San Francisco and as much as I love the city and the people in it, I get really tired of concrete, skyscrapers and traffic. While at camp I am surrounded 24/7 by trees and animals of all sorts, not to mention the amazing spring water. Camp is a retreat for me that gives me a chance to reconnect with nature and experience my love for the outdoors all over again.
The community that camp offers is something similar to a family; I love how camp puts people into tribes and allows us to build strong bonds with the people in our tribes. I’ve made friends at camp that I will never forget and memories that I will always remember.
Camp has provided me the opportunity to literally climb up mountains in order to see amazingly beautiful lakes and creeks. Being out on trail is a feeling I cannot get anywhere else; it is exhilarating, fun and very rewarding. Without camp I would have never been able to see the amazing places that I have and I would not have been able to challenge myself the way that I have while on trail.
Thanks to camp I have been able to make friends and memories I will never forget, meet amazing people that have been my counselors, see amazing lakes and landscapes, challenge myself to do things I never thought I would actually be able to do, and accomplish them.”
