Transportation To Camp

Bus transportation between the Bay Area and Camp Unalayee is included in the session fees. The bus picks up and drops off in the following locations: Palo Alto, Berkeley, Dunnigan, and Redding. For more information on drop-off and pick-up times and locations, see the directions below. Lunch is provided by Unalayee for those riding the bus at the Redding bus stop.

If you prefer to drop your camper off at Scott Mountain Summit, please see How to get to Scott Mountain at the bottom of the page, where you will find directions from Oregon, Arcata, and the Bay Area.  Additionally, if you are coming to camp from outside the Bay Area and would like carpool information, please send us an e-mail, and we’ll try our best to connect you with another family.

Palo Alto

Our Bus Driver, Don

Departures and arrivals are from the Cubberly Community Center parking lot, located at 4000 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto.

Be sure to arrive by 6:30 a.m. for drop-off. Pick up time: 5:00p.m.

Directions to Bus Departures and Arrivals:

From Santa Cruz and other points south of Palo Alto:

  • Take 17N to 85N to 101N to the first exit Old Middlefield Way merges into Middlefield Road Go past San Antonio Road to the third signal light-Montrose Ave. The driveway to the parking lot is on the left-hand
Directions from points north of Palo Alto:
  • Take 101S to San Antonio Rd. Turn right onto Middlefield Rd.


Departures and arrivals will be from the Cal Adventures & Sailing Club parking lot, in the Berkeley Marina on University Ave.

Be sure to arrive by 8:00 a.m. for drop-off. Pick up time: 3:45p.m.

Directions to Bus Departures and Arrivals:

From South 580 or 80:

  • Take Interstate 80 to Powell St. take a left under the freeway and right onto Frontage Rd.
  • Follow Frontage Rd. to University Ave – The Seabreeze Market is on the corner
  • Take a left onto University and follow the directions below

From South 880:

  • Take the University Ave. exit and the lower ramp that goes under the freeway
  • Take a right at the first intersection (Hearst) and go up Hearst to 6th Street light
  • Take a right onto 6th and the next right onto University

From the North:

  • Go over the overpass and continue straight into the Marina.
  • Take Interstate 80 and get off at the University Avenue exit in Berkeley
  • Take a left onto University toward the Bay. Continue down University, the road will straighten out after the 2nd stop sign (Marina St.) turn into the dirt parking lot with the Cal Adventure sign. If you go too far you will come to the Berkeley pier.


Departures and arrivals are from the Dunnigan rest stops.

Be sure to arrive by 10:00 a.m. for drop-off. Pick up time: 2:00p.m.

  • To camp – the stop is just north of the intersection of I-5 and I-505, north of Dunnigan, on the east side.
  • Returning from camp – the stop is on the south bound side of I-5, on the west side.


Departures will be from The Sundial Bridge at Turtle Bay Overflow Dirt Parking Lot: 840 Sundial Bridge Dr.

Be sure to arrive by 12:00pm for drop-off. Pick up time: 11:00am

  • Follow I-5 to CA-44 W in Redding.
  • Take the CA-44 W exit from I-5 towards Eureka
  • Take the Auditorium Dr exit toward Park Marina Dr/Turtle Bay Park
  • Turn right onto Sundial Bridge Drive
  • We will be in the picnic area next to the Sacramento River across the road from the dirt overflow parking lot, just past the main entrance to the Sundial Bridge and Visitor Center

Camp Unalayee – Finding Scott Mountain Summit

Please drop campers off by 3:00 p.m. and pick up at 9:00 a.m. Please note that Camp Staff will not be at Scott Mountain Summit to meet you until 2:30pm.

From Oregon and North:

  • I-5 to Yreka
  • South on Hwy 3 towards Fort Jones and Etna
  • 2 miles after Callahan follow Hwy 3 to right
  • Stay on Hwy 3 and follow signs toward Weaverville and Trinity Center
  • Scott Mountain Summit is about 7 miles on the right
  • About 2 hours driving time

From the Bay Area:

  • I-5 North to Weed
  • Take Gazelle Exit
  • Go left under I-5
  • Go right @ stop sign towards Gazelle
  • Go 7.2 miles to Gazelle and turn left on Gazelle-Callahan Rd
  • Go 24.7 miles and take a left onto Hwy 3 towards Trinity Center and Weaverville
  • Scott Mountain Summit is about 7 miles on the right
  • About 6 hours driving time

From Arcata and the Coast:

  • Take 299 to Weaverville
  • Turn left on Hwy 3
  • Scott Mountain Summit is about 60 miles on the left
  • About 4 hours driving time
