Camp Unalayee is excited to be hiring a number of new staff this year! We will also be filling several volunteer positions. Please see our Job Descriptions for all the possible ways you might be part of our amazing team.
Camp Unalayee’s base camp is primitive. We have no electricity or flush toilets. Everyone sleeps outside on the ground – no cabins. We have a spring-fed, gravity-run water system. Working at Camp Unalayee is a lot of work and a lot of fun as well.
We seek staff who are able to maintain a balance of energy, flexibility and responsibility. The most successful staff are those who like to work hard, smile a lot and want to make a positive difference in a child’s life and the world. We look for people who are comfortable living outdoors and enjoy working with their peers as well as with young people. Staff must be in excellent physical condition, as they will be living and hiking at 7000 feet.
Camp Unalayee is committed to diversity. People of color, LGBTQ and multilingual people are encouraged to apply.
Paid staff positions are available for those at least 19 years old, or 18 years old with Camp Unalayee CIT experience. In addition to counselor positions, we have unpaid support staff opportunities for those who are at least 18 years old, but inexperienced and want to develop their skills and knowledge working with children and leading wilderness trips. Both counseling and unpaid support staff positions are a great opportunity to build your resume and gain experience in education, outdoor leadership, environmentalism, and many skills needed in any workplace.
Current CPR/AED certification is required for all counseling staff (it is not required at the time of application but must be obtained prior to the start of the camp season). Those with lifeguard certification will be given hiring priority and paid an additional $100 per session. Our staff training provides Wilderness First Aid certification.
Salary for counseling positions depends on experience, the programs and number of days worked in the summer, and possession of Lifeguard certification.
Before filling out the online application, open the link to the application and read through the list of information that you will need available, as there isn’t a way to save it and come back later.
