Just like Unalayee’s programs for kids only, our Family programs are centered on simple outdoor living. At our wilderness summer camp, there is no electricity or indoor plumbing. Our showers are solar. Everyone pitches in with the chores. Families camp out in tents or under the stars!
If desired, families can ask to be led on and outfitted for an optional overnight hike to nearby alpine lakes. We can provide food, equipment, and staff to guide you. Our location is perfect for a family backpacking adventure, with clear creeks, flower-filled meadows and jewel-like lake basins close by.
Our Family Days programs are very popular for new and returning families. This is a great opportunity for potential new families and parents to come and see the Camp basin and meet the staff and other campers for the next summer. Many families have attended for ten summers, literally growing up in the mountains.
Family Days in Campsites
Just like our regular session campers, families will live in campsites and enjoy the amazing beauty of our lake basin in true Camp Unalayee style. Multiple families will join together to prepare most meals in the campsites along with their counselors – just like regular camp! Some lunches will be all together in “Central,” and there will be lots of opportunities all day long, and at Campfires to be together as a whole group and get to know and hang out with people who aren’t in your group. For those alumni who miss the good old days in Central – you can now request Central as your campsite during Family Days!
CampU Weekend (Communal Program)
Has it been far too many years since you’ve made it up to Camp Unalayee, but you just can’t get a whole week off? Well here’s the answer! This weekend only program is structured like Camp Unalayee’s traditional Family program. Families camp out together and meals are served communally in central. Everyone takes turns helping with cooking and dishes. Families enrolled in our Family Days program are encouraged to extend their summer camp experience by two nights and enroll in the weekend program as well and take advantage of this opportunity to get to know our long-standing community.
