Hello Unalayee Friends,
I first stepped foot in the Mosquito basin 22 years ago, and since have always planned to return year after year. Never did I expect to return to long hours spent in board meetings. Yet nothing could be more worth it. Nothing else in my life has compared to my experiences as a camper at Camp Unalayee – therefore, it is a privilege and an honor to spend my time making those experiences possible for others.
As a new member of the Camp Unalayee Board of Directors, I have been exposed to all the hard work that happens year round to make Camp a reality for 100s of kids. This past year I have seen some major accomplishments, including full enrollment and the successful transition of leadership to our new directors.
As we celebrate our 65th year we are working to ensure another successful 65 years and many more after that. As part of this work we have been restructuring the Board while maintaining the same summer camp traditions that we all love and care for. A quick peek at our Board’s goals for the year include:
- Building Board membership to ensure a Board that represents our community and has the skills we need to accomplish our goals
- Beginning a long term strategic plan for expanding and improving our programs and ensuring that they are available to youth of every background for countless years to come
- Raising the funds to ensure the long term financial stability of Camp
- Creating a long-term stewardship plan for the Mosquito Lake Watershed
The Board alone cannot accomplish these goals. We encourage and depend on community support every step of the way. There are a variety of different ways that you can get involved: serve on a committee, consider joining the Board, help with a fundraiser, make a donation, or volunteer up at Camp. Just let us know!
We appreciate all of the support we have already received from the community and we look forward to working with all of you in the future!
