The 1st session campers all made it on to the bus and back home sweet home! Actually – two buses: we said goodbye to the 10-day introductory program campers on July 8th and the rest of them on July 13th. After waking up at 5am to make the trek down the road, our first group of 2013 campers are home from camp. They might have been a little dirty when we sent them on their way, but they sure seemed happy!
We had 86 campers in the Mosquito Lake basin this year during 1st Session. 39 of them participated in our 10-day introductory program for younger campers, and 17 of them were part of our Counselor in Training Leadership Program. We also had 7 campers and 3 counselors go on Trail Tribe to the Whites – they loaded up their packs for 11 days of back country fun and ended the trip by climbing Thompson Peak!
Our staff had a great time exploring the wilderness, playing, and just enjoying the great out of doors with the kids over the last fifteen days.
And the 2013 1st sessions highlights are:
- Creek 1 was a tribe of pirates
- Only 3 hours of rain the whole session – and it was warm the whole time it was raining
- Special Day: Unicorns and Robots are always a good time!
- Homemade pizza for Special Day Dinner!
- The Gonzo made it to the top of Mt. Eddy and back in 4 days
- Perfect lake water temperature
- Clear skies
- One of the most amazing Trinity Alps Sunsets we’ve ever seen on Day 5 (the 2nd night of tribe hikes)
- Biggest Virginia Reel Band for Special Day ever
