Come work & play at Camp U this summer!
Camp Unalayee is excited to be hiring a number of new staff this year!
Please see our Summer Staff Job Descriptions for details on the positions available.
Camp U is committed to diversity. People of color, LGBTQ+ and multilingual people are strongly encouraged to apply.
Unalayee’s base camp is primitive. We have no electricity or flush toilets. Everyone sleeps outside on the ground or in tents – no cabins. We have a spring-fed, gravity-run water system. Working at Camp U is a lot of hard work and a lot of fun as well!
We seek staff who are able to maintain a balance of energy, flexibility and responsibility. The most successful staff are those who like to work hard, smile a lot and want to make a positive difference in a child’s life and the world. We look for people who are comfortable living outdoors and enjoy working with their peers as well as with young people. Staff must be in good physical condition, as they will be living and hiking at 7000 feet. Backpacking is a central feature of our program, but not all staff members are required to go out on the trail with kids.
Paid staff positions are available for those at least 19 years old, or 18 years old with Camp Unalayee CIT experience. Counseling positions are a great opportunity to build your resume and gain experience in education, outdoor leadership, environmentalism, and many skills needed in any workplace.
Current CPR/AED certification is required for all counseling staff (it is not required at the time of application but must be obtained prior to the start of the camp season). The salary for counseling positions depends on experience and other certifications. View our staff salary scale here. Wilderness First Aid certification and Lifeguard certification will be offered free of charge by Unalayee outside of staff training.
Know that although it’s not quite fair to say we provide “room and board” because your room is a tent, we do have tents, backpacks and other camping gear to give or lend to staff members who do not bring their own. While at Camp, all food is provided and there is basically nothing to spend money on.
We are fully hired for the summer of 2024. Please check back here in January of 2025!
Before filling out the online application, open the link to the application and read through the list of information that you will need available, as there is unfortunately no way to save it and come back later.

– 1st session – June 29-July 13
– 2nd session – July 17-July 31
