89 Campers, 15 splendid days, 14 starry nights, eight burning campfires, seven nights on the trail, six days of Mosquito Lake swimming, and one special day later, Camp Unalayee’s 2013 2nd session has ended with a bang!
What an amazing session filled with jokes, fun, games, and most importantly: friends! The Camp Unalayee staff just can’t stop talking about all the amazing campers we had at this year’s 2nd session!
It was another very warm session up in the trinity alps, but fortunately we did get a quick break from all the heat during choice hikes. Scattered thunder showers dropped hail on most of our hikes – with the most impressive showing in the Unalayee basin: it hailed marbles on us for 30 minutes! The ground was covered in hail afterwards – it looked like it snowed!
2nd session was the perfect example of our 15-day program. The true Unalayee experience! Campers spent three days in our lake basin swimming, crafting and doing other activities. Then they went out on a two-night backpacking trip with their living group – called a “tribe.” After returning from the “Tribe Hike” the kids had three more days of base camp acivities, friends and fun – including Special Day – a day of costumes, special activities, and group participation. Then they went on a three-night hike with the destination, friends, and counselors of their choice. After returning from “Choice Hikes” they had just one more day in the basin to do activities and share last minutes with their friends before the sunrise walk down the camp road to catch the bus home. It’s amazing how fast two weeks go by when you are having fun!
Some of the best moments from 2nd session 2013 were:
- Special Day: Attack of the Hill People
- “Macklemore” Craftshack Skit
- Sooooo many talented musicians: we had a stand up base, fiddles, drums, guitars, harmonicas, and more at EVERY campfire and vespers!
- Four Trail Tribes! Can you remember the last time there were four trail tribes? ‘Cause we can’t!
