And just like that the summer is over! 278 campers, 77 days, six hikes, three sessions, two family days programs, and one brand new program for the Navigators later, we are all back home and wondering “where did the summer go?” It seems like it goes by more quickly every year.
As with every summer, we faced some challenges. This summer in particular they included making sure we had ample safe drinking water during these extreme drought conditions and modifying our backpacking routes to make sure everyone was out of harms way from the forest fires in Northern California. But all said and done we think it was one of the best summers to date! What an amazing bunch of kids and staff we had up at Mosquito Lake this summer ā it was remarkable how willing to be part of our community and how respectful the campers were.
Once again this summer we also had a rock star team of volunteers come up and help us continue our Craft Shack remodel project and help us complete our new Composting Toilet.
But mostly, whether we were dressing up as Unalayee legends for Special Day, summiting Thompson Peak, crafting on the new Craft Shack deck, or just spending time with our new friends, Summer 2014 was a whole bunch of FUN! Thanks for being there with us, sending your camper to join us, or just keeping up with all the news on social media. You are what makes camp so amazing and we canāt wait to keep sharing it with you for years to come!
