Can you believe summer is almost over? We can’t. We had so many wonderful campers up in the Trinity Alps this summer, that the time just flew by! We just sent 90 campers home from Scott Mountains Summit at the end of 3rd Session, our last camper program of 2012! We have August Family Days, our five night family camp program still to come, but it’s almost time for the staff to pack up camp and head home themselves!
We had an amazing 3rd session! The weather has been beautiful all summer, and thanks to a “normal” snow pack this year the trail conditions have been quite passable, but we’ve also had plenty of fresh spring water to drink and some snow left in August at the highest elevations for Zing-Cones! The weather was amazing this session with only a few thunder showers on tribe hikes, and only at a couple lakes. Some tribes had a totally dry session!
We were fortunate to have 16 campers and their two chaperones join us this year from the Ambitious program of Japan that has been attending Unalayee for TEN YEARS now! They lived with us in our tribes, went on both of our overnight hikes, and participated in all the activities with great enthusiasm! Thank you for joining us again this summer Ambitious!
A few other 3rd Session highlights were:
- Special Day of course! Alternate Futures Day, which included an amazing time machine built by Bird and David.
- Three Trail Tribes went out for 11 and 12 day hikes. A total of 32 people left the basin on session long hikes. We haven’t seen this many people go on trail in years!
- Our Japanese campers performed the “Peach Boy” skit, and adaptation of a traditional Japanese Folk Tale.
- We went rock climbing at Eagle’s Nest!
- Warm warm weather! Shorts and T-shirts at campfire!
