The last summer camp program of 2013 has come and gone! I really do believe this summer has gone by more quickly than any other.
During our five night, six day family camp we had people of all ages up in the Trinity Alps with us taking advantage of the wonders of the mountains at the end of summer. We had 95 people enrolled in our regular program, and more kept showing up throughout.
Despite the very large forest fires near Somes Bar and Sawyer’s Bar – just 30 miles west of Camp Unalayee – the Mosquito Lake basin air quality was surprisingly good!
2013 Family Days Highlights
- Well, clearly this one takes the cake: Lowell’s Celebration. Over 25 extra community members joined us on August 21st to help the
Camp Unalayee Board of Directors honor Lowell for his 25 years as Director. The Camp Unalayee community raised over $15,000 for Camperships in his name. Tom dedicated the office in the food shack as the “Lowell Lounge.” Young and old stayed up around the campfire till 2:30 in the morning telling stories about Lowell and all the crazy wonderful things he’s done. - Two overnight hikes to Doe and East Boulder
- After all the families left on day 6 many of the Lot owners (There are 16 privately owned lots which make up the other half Unalayee’s section) came up to the basin to discuss the future of the Lots and Unalayee’s land and have tea
- Cupcakes. Oh man, were those some good cupcakes.
- Paracord Bracelets. They were popular with kids, they were popular with the parents. Looks like we’ve found a keeper.
Take a look at the photos on Picasa! We will be posting more, so check back later!
