To All Friends of Camp Unalayee,
The Board of Directors of the Camp Unalayee Association is pleased to announce that Martha Stryker has been selected as our new incoming Executive Director. Martha has a long history with Camp Unalayee and will ably lead the organization year-round in all its complexities. Martha will work side-by-side with Sarah Camp for some months to gain a full understanding of the annual flow of work needed to make the magic of Camp Unalayee happen.
Martha is very excited and honored to have been chosen as the next Executive Director of Camp. From her first bus ride to Scott Mountain Summit when she was ten years old, she was hooked on Unalayee! Since then she has been a camper, CIT, counselor, program director, board member and now a camper-parent. She and her husband Dominic met as counselors at Unalayee and though they lived in the Midwest for 10 years keeping busy with work and school, they have been bringing their three kids to visit Unalayee every summer since they were tiny babies.
Her professional experience includes teaching elementary school in Wisconsin and California, at both public and private schools, giving her many years of experience working with kids and their families. For the last 14 years she has served on the Board of Directors for Fieldguides Inc, a non-profit outdoor education organization, and she currently holds an elected position as vice president of the East Palo Alto Sanitary District Board of Directors.
Stepping into the role of Executive Director feels like a natural progression of her love for the people and the place that make Unalayee so unique and magical. There are many challenges ahead for our community and the land that we steward in the Trinity Alps and she is ready to work with Sarah, the Board and all of you – the knowledgeable and talented folks in our greater community. She is grateful for the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of year-round operations from Sarah and is looking forward to connecting with all of you over the coming years.
The Board is deeply grateful for all of Sarah’s efforts on behalf of Camp Unalayee. We also appreciate the dedication and support of our community, in particular all who expressed interest in the Executive Director position. We were privileged to be in the difficult position of choosing between highly qualified and capable candidates. Camp Unalayee is in great shape and ready to meet future challenges and take advantage of unfolding opportunities.
Sincerely,
The Camp Unalayee Board of Directors
