Owen has been in the Camp Unalayee family since 1996 when he attended 2nd session as a camper for the first time. He continued as a camper most years through the early 2000s. Since then he has been a volunteer staff member, assisted with work crew projects, and served on the Camp Unalayee Advisory Board for many years. He now joins the Board of Directors, lending knowledge and expertise in science, technology, business, and finance to the Camp Unalayee community.
Owen grew up in Ashland, Oregon then moved to Los Angeles to attend Occidental College where he received a BA in Organic Chemistry (yes, an Arts degree in Science). He met his wife, professional Dance Teacher and Competitor Ashley Perretta in LA in 2013. They lived and worked there until deciding to hit the road, becoming digital nomads in 2019.
Owen worked in Finance for nearly a decade before finding a way to convert his childhood passion for technology into a job, and subsequently switched careers in 2014. He currently works as a Software Engineer, focusing primarily on designing, building, and scaling large consumer-facing iPhone apps.
When not behind a computer screen Owen enjoys skiing, SCUBA, cycling, hiking, and generally spending time outdoors. He also enjoys learning about new cultures through travel, with an emphasis on trying local cuisine everywhere he goes.
