Donate your REI rewards to Camp Unalayee!
One of the barriers to attending Camp as a low-income camper or new staff member can be the EQUIPMENT and attire. We do have a significant amount of loaner gear which we distribute every session, but every year we need to replace worn out items and sometimes provide specific articles to make Camp possible and comfortable for everyone.
Here’s where you REI shoppers and REI credit card-holders can help: Donate your REI rewards to Camp Unalayee!
This is super easy to do, simply go online to your REI account, add an e-gift card to your shopping cart, and send it to Camp U, with the e-mail: community@gocampu.com
Camp staff can then use these donations to purchase exactly what is needed.
~ Nominate Camp U for REI Community Action Fund Grant!
The REI Cooperative Action Fund allows anyone to recommend a potential grantee, and though they say multiple recommendations don’t increase the chance of receiving a grant, we think it can’t hurt, right? The REI Cooperative Action Fund gives grants to organizations with a commitment to justice, equity and belonging. Grantees must be aligned with one of their three grantmaking initiatives.
We think the following is the initiative with which Camp U aligns most:
Connecting People Outside: Supporting organizations led by and serving Black and Indigenous communities; people of color; LGBTQ+ community; people with disabilities; women; and low-income communities through connections to the outdoors. Prioritizing organizations that cultivate connections, healing and joy outside.

It should take less than 5 minutes to fill out this form, there is only one written portion of the form that asks,
“Please share a sentence about how your recommendation aligns with the Fund’s mission and grantmaking initiative listed above.”
You can write a sentence from your own experience with Camp Unalayee or use one of the below examples:
“Since 1949, CampU has been bringing kids from diverse backgrounds together to learn, live and play in the outdoors, offering all levels of financial assistance; they give kids independence, teach resilience, environmental stewardship and cultural appreciation while taking kids on backpacking trips of varied lengths in the Trinity Alps wilderness.“
“Camp Unalayee provides transformational wilderness and community living experiences to kids from all backgrounds, cultures, and identities, cultivating life-long friendships grounded in shared outdoor adventure and respect for others, for self & for the natural world.”
