Camp Unalayee campers and staff go on to succeed in all kinds of interesting fields after attending our summer camp for kids. Recently we did a piece in our Newsletter featuring Adam Leff who works for the US Foreign Service, we’ve grown many Peace Corps volunteers, and we boast having a number of accomplished journalists in our family.
Interested in learning a little more about one of those journalists? Check out this video of past Unalayee counselor and outstanding community member John Markoff, Senior writer for the New York Times science section.
In this taping of the Chroniclers of Technology: An Evening with David Kirkpatrick, Steven Levy & John Markoff at the Computer History Museum on May 15th 2013, these three prolific technology writers give their versions of the history of the field. Watch minute 7:00 particularly closely – John fondly mentions his time in the Trinity Alps at our summer camp for kids!
Just last spring John won a Pulitzer Prize in Explanatory Writing for his work as part of a team of New York Times reporters for their “penetrating look into business practices by Apple and other technology companies that illustrates the darker side of a changing global economy for workers and consumers.” What an achievement!
And, just for fun – John in the Trinities back in the day:
