Last year’s Girls Getaway hike was so successful that we’ve decided to offer it again this year! We took eleven girls out into the Russian Wilderness for an eleven-night, twelve-day backpacking trip that we’ll all remember for a lifetime.
“I liked Girls Getaway because it was a big challenge to overcome. It taught me that anything is possible if I set my mind to it! I got so strong from the trip physically and mentally. One thing I enjoyed was how we all worked together the whole time and lived like a family. Like any other family there were chores involved like filling the smiley or going on wood runs, but we also got to climb peaks, watch beautiful sunsets, and swim in mountains lakes. I learned a lot from the experience and I’m so glad I participated!” – Sophie, 2012
Girls Getaway is formatted similarly to our other summer camp Trail Programs, with one special caveat – it’s only for girls! We believe that learning to live in the wilderness, and overcoming the obstacles of carrying all you need to survive on your back, builds confidence and friendships like nothing else. We’ve seen generations of Unalayee girls grow into confident successful women – we believe that their wilderness experiences helped prepare them to succeed later in life.
“Two weeks hiking in the mountains with only girls gives you a whole new sense of confidence and realization of just how awesome girls are!” – Trula, 2012
Girls Getaway is available to ages 12-17 and all levels of backpacking experience, although we do recommend some outdoor experience. We want to show ALL girls what they are capable of and give them a chance to make the friendships that only 15 days in the wilderness with other awesome girls can create!
Dates: 2nd Session, July 15th – July 29th, 2013
If you are interested in this program please call Sarah at (650)308-4453 to enroll.
In 2012 Girls Getaway filled by the end of March, so sign up early, space is limited! (This program must have 5 participants to run)
“Girls Getaway was a wonderful experience! Everyone was so kind to me and enjoyed each others company. At the beginning I was not the biggest fan of hiking, but over the trip I learned that hiking can be fun when the people you are with make wonderful company. Seeing so many lakes was great because I got to compare each one to the others and we went many places that I would never have traveled to at base camp. I also met so many new friends on this trip. Girls Getaway helped me to grow a new family! I loved it!” – Lucy, 2012
