Our last summer camp program of the 2012 summer season ended just a week ago! It’s amazing how fast the summer flies by when you are having fun.
During this five night, six day family program we had campers of all ages (yes, that’s right, from diapers to walking canes) up in the Mosquito Lake Basin enjoying the out of doors and the wonders of Indian Summer at Unalayee. We had 55 people join us for this family program. Although it was a smaller group than in recent years, we found that the campers really got the chance to bond with each other and the staff in a way they weren’t able to before and it was one of the most cohesive Family Days in years.
Although we had some smoke from the multiple forest fires burning through-out California and Southern Oregon, the weather was quite splendid. We didn’t have even the smallest threat of rain and the nights were relatively mild.
Some of our favorite moments from this year’s August Family Days were:
- Silkscreens. We had two beautiful Family Days Screens designed by campers: Alec and Fiona, and a great tree screen designed by Molly, a staff member. We screen probably 100 shirts! And they turned out great! Look at them:
- Tie- Dye. Always a family favorite, and as always they were beautiful again this year.
- The food. How is it always so delicious? Bagels compliments of Los Bagels, Lasagna, Chicken Pesto Pasta, Roast and Fresh caught Tuna, Chilequiles, Red and Green Chili Cook off, Taco Salad… The list goes on…
- Sweats. We cooked up some real hot
rocks and took advantage of their heat! - Last night vespers. Old and young alike performed out by the lake.
